'Nature is the best teacher there is'

A walk into the woods is worth a whole book. As you step into a world full of surprises, it is there one learns a lot of things by one’s own. With every step you take, you will be greeted with something that either you haven’t known before or elusive to you for a long time, however they were there only- in your vicinity, nearby your home. Until you know our existence is intertwined with flora and fauna, the sense of responsibilty and respect towards them would be a thing in moot. From biggest to tiniest, nature has attained different forms to support life on the earth. It is high time we inculcated valuable lessons among the generation, and more importantly among children at tender ages as they are the ones who can bring out the revolutionary changes at grassroot levels while growing up.
In one such effort, The Villagers Foundation has initiated a programme aimed at creating awareness among the children about the nature they dwell in. The Birding Programmes held at Munsiyari Public School, Uttarakhand, is one of the many to come. The Villagers Foundation conveys its sincere thank to the Principal, smt. Nanda Dharmsattu in general, and in particular to the teacher fraternity who left no stone unturned in their efforts for smooth execution of the programme, not to mention the safety of the children during the field day. Under the aegis of Mr. Rajendra Koranga and apt supervision of Mr. Ram Narayan, the children were imparted invaluable lessons on birds, butterflies, and local flora during a tour to Sharmoli village.

We organize events all around the globe to create awareness.

Thamri Kund Clean up, Uttarakhand

Thamri Kund, a sacred lake perched amidst the lush green forest of munsiyari, Uttarakhand, has long been revered by the locals as a harbinger of rain in case there lies a deficient of the same. With a view it offers, and the kind of biodiversity it harbours – different species of birds, mammals, and various medicinal plants- the place gained popularity in recent time among the visitors and enthusiasts alike. Not to mention, the amount of littering strewn in and around has been of a scale unfathomable. The beer bottles tucked into grasses, wrappers of gutka, pan masala, chips and chocolate are pronounced on trail everywhere.
In an effort to keep the place tidy, a clean-up drive was carried out as a result of joint venture of The Villagers Foundation and Sankies on 19/06/22. Led by the team, the drive started off wee hours, later joined by a team of ITBP who happened to visit the place meanwhile. The team collected garbages from the trail and vicinity of the kund during a five hour session. Later, the team segregated the waste before disposing it of properly. With a view to inculcating a sense of responsibility and respect towards nature, the visitors taking the trail were requested not to litter the place.
The team look forward to cleaning up more such trails in time to come in order to promote eco tourism among the locals. It is high time we educated the locals, especially growing children, about the proper disposal of waste in the interest of biodiversity we live in.

Child Sex Abuse Sensitization Programmes

The Villagers Foundation, in collaboration with Bachpan – Save the innocence, conducted a three-day workshop at Diksha School, Gurugram with a focus to sensitise school going children about the rights regarding sexual abuse of any kind which may range from mental, emotional and physical while also teaching them to stand up for themselves as and when required. In a country where 40 percent of the population is below the age of 18 and over 53 per cent of children surveyed in 2007 stated that they had experienced one or more forms of sexual abuse, the need to create awareness becomes an immediate task.

Khaliya Top Clean Up,Uttarakhand

Khuliya Top Trek, deemed as a spectacular one among treks in kumaon region of Uttarakhand, is a stretch of 6 kms perched at an elevation of 11,500 ft, with a trail dotted by Rhododendron and oak forest rife with different species of birds. Considering the uncanny view of Nanda Devi, Rajrambha, Panchachuli and Nepal Himalayas it provides at the top, the trail is visited by large masses from different states every year. No wonder, with crowd it attracts lots of garbages too, often littered enroute trail, overtly overlooked by people there. The tiny pieces of wrappers of gutkha, tobacco, pan masala and chewing gums, compounds the problem of plastic waste littered around already.
With the imminent help received by two school going boys, we tried to clean up the trail during a three hour walk focused on collecting small plastic wrappers and bottles. Though it was not easy to pick up every littered pollutant off track, yet we tried our best to atleast collect ones within reach.
Upon conversing with the management committee over the actions taken to keep the trail clean, they told us that they once implemented the imposition of fine for those who are found of littering by collecting an advance for plastic things they carried. In next breathe, he further added that they preferred littering over collecting deposited money.
The Villagers Foundation earnestly requests every soul to dispose of their garbages responsibly while in mountains as the problem of pollutants has already been manifesting in terms of global warming and other calamities on a frequent basis.
Note : You needn’t be a member of an Ngo or a part of the same to launch such clean-up drives. It can be anybody- You, I and We. Sooner or later, others would lend a helping hand in your endeavour.

"A HANDFUL HELP"

In order to ameliorate the conditions in the rural Himalayas, The Villagers Foundation has envisioned a drive named ” A Handful Help” which urges people from different strata to donate things or anything no longer in use for them. It might be your old clothes hanging in your wardrobe or a pair of shoes that have accumulated enough dust settled in one corner of your house or books that have eluded your attention for long or anything (reiterated). It could well be a class over internet to the exuberant children or sharing your expertise to the youths in need. A doctor’s advice to the old mama in remote villages is a life-saving. An entrepreneur’s advice to the youth could be life-changing.In doing, you too will be getting an insight into the lives of people living in the mountains. Who knows? one day you will be listening to the old lady who you help in some manner or other. Sharing flows like a river.

Charity Begins At Home.

• We have our Facilitation Centres stationed at different cities where things will be collected, segregated and sorted out by our team before dispensing with.
• The Collection and Distribution Drive will be duly aided by Volunteers.
• Clothes donated will be washed, fixed and packed properly at our facilitation centre. Human dignity is what we vouch for the most.
